Muscat Ottonel, Muscat Ottonel Weiss, Ottonel Muscotaly, Tamiioasa Ottonel

Muškát Ottonel was cultivated for the first time in Alsace by the Loire grower Moreau-Robert in 1852. It is believed to be a cross of Chasselas with Muscat de Saumur. Variety belongs to Muscat family, which is characteristic by its high aromatic character. Variety is very suitable for colder climates, altough cultivation is quite difficult, as well as uncertain yields have pushed this variety into background and growing areas are declaining. Nose of dry white wines can be very pleasant. It is crucial for this variety for being full and balanced wine to come from good location, as well as good processing. On the other hand, wines produced from over ripen grapes can lack the acidity and can have pronounced bitter aftertaste. 

Quality akostné odrodové víno is produced, as well as dry wines with attribute – kabinetné (Kabinett) and Neskorý zber (late harvest), occasionaly polosladké (semi – sweet) Výber z hrozna (grapes selection), sladké (sweet) bobuľový výber and ľadové víno (ice wine). Variety is also used in sweet aromatic sparkling wines.
