Fetească regală origins in Mureş County in Romania, as a crossing of Kövérszőlő (also known as Grasa – cross of Kadarka x Munkacsy Jozsef) and Fetească Alba. Plant rearer Gaspari de Medias introduced it for wider planting in 1928 during the exposition of fruit in Bucharest. First clones in Slovakia were planted in 1914 and since 1970s it was extensively widespread mainly in small Carpathian, Nitra and Central Slovakia wine regions.
Quality akostné odrodové víno is produced, as well as dry styles in kabinetné (Kabinett) and neskorý zber (late harvest) which might occasionally be bit higher in residual sugar. medium and sweet wines in categories of bobuľový výber (choice of berries), hrozienkový výber (selection of raisins), slamové víno (straw wine) and ľadové víno (ice wine) are produced in years with suitable conditions. Variety is also used for the production of sparkling wine.
Variety is very teem, requiring rich soils with emphasis on content of potassium. Wines are light yellow in colour, distinguished by an exotic fruit aromas, slightly floral, sometimes also with muscaty tones. Wine is pleasant in body and full harmonious taste that can be specified as dried apricots, aftertaste is long and extractive.
