Müller – Thurgau was created by Hermann Müller from the Swiss
Canton of Thurgau in 1882. His aim by cross-breeding Riesling and
Silvaner was to combine the intensity and complexity of Riesling with
earlier ripening of Silvaner. Recent DNA analysis shown, that grape
variety was created from Riesling and Madeleine Royale – Chasselas
de Courtillier a Chasselas seeding, not Silvaner. As an early
ripening grape, wines from Müller – Thurgau are one of the first
approaching market every year. High yields are easy to achieve and
wines might be very thin and bitter, on the other hand with good care
wine can provide delicious muscat, grapefruit and peachy aromas,
sufficient levels of acidity, roundness, refreshing balance and
smooth finish. Final products are mainly quality akostné odrodové
wine also with attributes – almost explicitly as kabinetné or
neskorý zber (late harvest).
