White, registered in 1987; 345 ha; 1.9 % of the vineyard plantings

Interesting and unique wines from this popular grape variety are available from all Slovak wine regions. Since the variety is considered as very influenced by local conditions of place where is it grown, the styles vary from place to place.

Quality akostné odrodové víno is produced, as well as dry styles in kabinetné (Kabinett) and neskorý zber (late harvest). Výber z Hrozna (grapes selection) is usually dry, but semi dry versions might appear. Bobuľový výber – polosladké and sladké - medium and sweet wines are made by quite many producers, as well as more rare hrozienkový výber (choice of sultanas). Some wines spent some time in new oak barrels, which is indicated on label as Barikové (Barique). Variety is also used for production of pleasant sparkling wines made purely from Chardonnay or in cuveé with other varieties using traditional method. Sur - lie Chardonnay is rarely produced as well. Variety is also crucial for domestic production of sparkling wines.
